Artwork stops pedestrians on Lincoln Road

January 8th, 2012

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

2012 has gotten off to a great start. I have two new pieces on display in one of the main storefront windows in the ArtCenter South Florida located at 810

Lincoln Road. The works are getting a tremendous response with people stopping literally in their tracks to come and see the work. So at any given time there is a crowd of people stopping to look at the work and see from what it is made. As this is the first real exhibition of this new body of work, I am very happy with the public response.

In addition to the display on Lincoln Road, I also have work on exhibit in the storefront windows of Walgreens on 74th Street and Collins in Miami Beach that will be up through the mid of January. As it might sound odd to have work displayed in the windows of Walgreens, the ArtCenter has an agreement with the drug store to display their artist’s work in their storefronts throughout Miami Beach.

As for this week, I will be busy in the studio making new work and brainstorming ideas. I trust this finds you well and hope the new year is off to a good start for you!

Best,

Steven

Happy New Year!!!

January 1st, 2012

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

Happy New Year! May 2012 bring you much joy and prosperity! As for myself, I have been so busy since ArtBasel Miami Beach until now that I have not found the time to update the blog. To get everyone back up to speed, I will begin where I last left off.

ArtBasel was amazing! I saw a lot of great artwork; I was able to spend time with a number of friends from around the world who I have not seen in some time; I met and made a number of new contacts and friends; and my work was well received where it was on exhibit at the Pulse Art Fair and the ArtCenter’s 800 Gallery. When it was all over, I had the feeling of coming back from a long vacation. ArtBasel had been such an intense period of art, openings, dinners, parties, and good conversation, that I had to remember where I had left off. So after the fair, I had to catch up on all the things that had gone neglected during the week of ArtBasel. In addition, I had to send off a number of pieces as well as complete several commissions before Christmas. So getting the work made, framed, crated, and sent off brought me to the holidays. Also I had the opportunity to exhibit my work in the store front windows of Walgreens on 74th Street and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach which will be on view till mid January.

As for the holidays, I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my family who live a few hours North of Miami. This year all of my siblings were together except one, so it was nice to see and catch up with everyone. I then returned to Miami and have been busy making new pieces and attending holiday parties up until the New Year.

Already 2012 is going to be a busy year. My work that is currently on exhibit in a group exhibition at the 800 Gallery on Lincoln Road is coming down this week. Afterwards, I will then have new pieces showcased in the premiere ArtCenter store front window located at 810 Lincoln Road. So the busy pace will continue into January.

I trust this finds you well and wish you all the very best in 2012!

Warm regards,

Steven

Artwork at Pulse Art Fair and ArtCenter 800 Gallery

November 22nd, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

I am little behind with updating my blog as things are starting to get hectic with so much to do before next week when ArtBasel Miami Beach kicks off. The art world event is the largest in North America, and I would venture to say in the world with not only the main fair but also the dozen or so other satellite fairs and hundreds of events that take place at the same time. I will be participating this year by having my work presented at Pulse Art Fair and in a resident artist group show at the the ArtCenter South Florida’s 800 Gallery. At both venues, I will have new work on exhibit that I have just made and has never been shown before. In addition, I will have more fresh work on display at my new studio located at 924 Lincoln Road, #107. If you will be in town for the fair and would like a private viewing, please contact me to set up an appointment.

As for the show in New York at the Bertrand Delacroix Gallery’s new Brooklyn space at 314 Atlantic Avenue, it is going well. The opening party that was on Saturday, November 12th was well attended and the $100 U.S. Flag received a lot of attention. The show features works by such artists as Ron Agam, Matthew Benedict, Markus Bradley, Nellie Davis, Alex Dodge, David Ellis, Richard Estes, Torben Giehler, Robert Indiana, Kaws, Paul Pope, Kate Shepherd, Allison Smith, Pat Steir , Ian Trask, John Wesley, Sue Williams and Russell Young.

I am going to keep this week’s post short as I have much to do to get ready, but thanks for stopping by. I look forward to seeing you if you will be in Miami for the big event. Until then, I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Best,

Steven

Works in NYC and Miami on exhibit this week

November 8th, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

This week you can find my work on exhibit in New York and Miami. The $100 U.S. Flag print on Coventry rag paper is part of a group show at the Bertrand Delacroix Gallery’s new Brooklyn space at 314 Atlantic Avenue. The opening party is this Saturday, November 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature print works by such artists as Ron Agam, Matthew Benedict, Markus Bradley, Nellie Davis, Alex Dodge, David Ellis, Richard Estes, Torben Giehler, Robert Indiana, Kaws, Paul Pope, Kate Shepherd, Allison Smith, Pat Steir , Ian Trask, John Wesley, Sue Williams and Russell Young. If the Big Apple is not in your plans and instead you find yourself on the beach in the Magic City, the HOPE, PROGRESS, and Money Laundering prints will be on display in the 800 Lincoln Road window from November 9th to 14th. If you would like further information on either upcoming shows, please contact me.

This week in the studio, I have been dealing with more of the business end of things by getting a number of works photographed and taking care of paperwork. I am still preparing for ArtBasel Miami Beach which is only 4 weeks away. I am anticipating I will have a few studio visits during that week, so I want to have as many new works as possible ready. This week will entail applying for an upcoming show during the Basel Show week and continue working in the studio. I hope to even have some new images published to the website soon.

Thanks for stopping by,

Steven

Exhibiting in NY/Miami and making new work

October 30th, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

I am excited to announce that my work will be exhibited in New York and Miami during the month of November. The $100 U.S. Flag on Coventry rag paper is in a group exhibition in New York at the Bertrand Delacroix Gallery’s new Brooklyn space at 314 Atlantic Avenue. The reception for the show is November 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature print works by such artists as Ron Agam, Matthew Benedict, Markus Bradley, Nellie Davis, Alex Dodge, David Ellis, Richard Estes, Torben Giehler, Robert Indiana, Kaws, Paul Pope, Kate Shepherd, Allison Smith, Pat Steir , Ian Trask, John Wesley, Sue Williams and Russell Young. In Miami Beach, I will have work on display in the window at 800 Lincoln Road from November 9th to 14th. If you would like further information on either upcoming exhibits, please contact me.

It has been a productive week in the studio, and I was able to get a number of new pieces finished. So I am making good progress for ArtBasel Miami Beach which is only 5 weeks away. The pressure is on as I am anticipating I will have a few visitors to my studio during that week, and I want to have as many new works ready to present them.

So I am busy in the studio, but I trust this finds you well and wish you all the best.

Happy and safe Halloween!

Steven

Colon cancer checkup and new studio

October 22nd, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

I have been a bit delinquent with updating my blog as I have been busy the past few weeks.

At the end of September, I went to North Carolina to have a colonoscopy done. My family has a high rate of colon cancer and so although I am quite young, my doctor encouraged me to get checked out. They found and cut out a benign polyp, and I am clear for another five years before I have to be examined again.

After getting back, I was informed that I had been accepted to an artist residence in Miami. The residence will provide me with an affordable studio space. I have since moved in and have been busy making new artwork. I am excited about the new studio as I will finally have a separation between where I live and where I work. Thus, I anticipate I will be more productive.

Of course this comes just as ArtBasel Miami Beach is only 6 weeks away. So I am focused on making as many new pieces as possible before the beginning of December as there is much to do in the short period of time that is remaining.

I trust this finds you well and will attempt to keep you better posted on how things are progressing in the future.

Best,

Steven

Time is ticking away

September 25th, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

Time is ticking away as there are only 9 weeks left before ArtBasel Miami Beach arrives. I have been making steady progress to have 20 new pieces completed in time for the fair. This week I had some printing issues with one of my pieces and hope that it is finally resolved. I was also able to get some better photo reproductions of the Money Laundering print, the $100 Stainless Steel bill, and the HOPE and PROGRESS prints done. A few weeks prior, I had better pictures taken of the Four Season Series. So finally the images on the website more accurately depict the actual works.

This week I have to attend to some necessary business that has been neglected for too long. So I will be focusing on brainstorming and developing new ideas for artworks in the meantime.

I trust this finds you well and will keep you posted on how things are moving.

Best,

Steven

Busy, Busy in the Studio

September 11th, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

I have been a bit delinquent with my blog updating responsibilities the past few weeks as I have been consumed with making new artworks in the studio. My goal is to have 20 new pieces finished by the time ArtBasel Miami Beach rolls into town the first week of December. So far, I have a number of new ideas sketched out, and two pieces completed. I just have to stay on target and buckle down for the next 11 weeks before artaggedon hits Miami, and I should be ok.

As well as cracking the whip in the studio, I also had to send out another piece to a collector this past week. This entailed getting the piece framed, professionally photographed, crated, and shipped out. I hope it arrives safely, and they will be happy with everything.

Well, I better get back to it. I trust this finds you well and will let you know how things are progressing next week.

Best,

Steven

P.S. My sincere sympathies go out to all the families, relatives, loved ones, and friends who lost someone on this tragic day ten years ago. I would especially like to remember Michael Richards who I knew. May he and all the victims rest in peace.

Back in Miami after 2 week NY road trip

August 7th, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

I just got back after a two week trip in New York. Burkhard Eikelmann, the German gallerist who shows my work in Düsseldorf was visiting New York City and the Hamptons. So I went up to visit him in New York as well as a number of the various dealers who show my work in the area. A few of the dealers wanted to return works to me, so by driving up I was able to kill two birds with one stone. Unfortunately, I got to New York in the middle of a heat wave and was in the city on the hottest day ever recorded.

I only spent a few days in the city before going out to the Hamptons were the temperature was more mild. The Hamptons are interesting. They have the feel of Disney World because everything is so manicured and perfect. The main streets seem to be out of a movie more than actual structures. It is such a change of pace compared to the city. It was really relaxing.

One of the highlights of my Hampton trip was visiting the former home of Abstract Expressionist painter, Jackson Pollack . We arrived after the house was closed to the public, but we were able to walk around the grounds of the property. His house was much bigger than I imagined, and it was a treat to see the outside of the studio where he worked. The next time I am in the Hamptons, I will make it a point to visit when the house is open.

Since I got back to Miami last Monday, I have been in the process of catching up after being away. So doing the usual like going through my mail, paying bills, and more or less trying to get back up to speed of where I was before I took off.

I also had to send out an artwork to a collector. This entailed getting the work photographed, crated, and shipped. The crating took longer than I had anticipated and so it will have to go out this week. Hopefully all goes well.

Once I get this shipment out, I look forward to getting back to work and making art. It has been too long before I have done anything creative, and I look forward to making new pieces.

I trust this finds you well and will let you know next week how the creative process is going.

Best,

Steven

Artwork mentioned in New York Observer

July 18th, 2011

Welcome to StevenGagnon.com, the best way to keep up with all of my artistic activities, news, and upcoming exhibitions.

After Eckert Fine Art exhibited a number of my pieces at the ArtHamptons Art Fair last weekend, my work received a lot of attention and was mentioned in The New York Observer. The article comes when my work has been recently featured in a few other publications. Fortune Magazine published an image of the $100 U.S. Flag in an article that they did about noted investor and a collector of my work, Bruce Berkowitz. Also a new work that I had donated to the Exit Art 2011 Benefit Auction was featured in an article in ArtLog.com entitled Beyond Jasper Johns.

Artistically, I have been developing a few ideas for new projects as well as getting materials to begin new pieces. I am creating a new body of work for a upcoming solo show. I am making some headway but it is going slower than I would like. As I have a number of meetings and appointments this week, it doesn’t look like I will have much time to devote to making art.

Wish me luck, and I trust this finds you well.

Best,

Steven
